Why Fictional Characters Should Hang Out With Us

Well, hello, friends.

I see you’ve survived through the treacherous conditions of Blogoween with the Halloween games to character resurrection and you are eagerly waiting for your next adventure.

Welcome to my reign of Bookending Winter 2018, friends.

Bring on the chills, the decorations, the EXCITEMENT. We’re going to have a grand time together the next few days, so let’s get this party started!

In fact, we’re going to break some rules again because I’m probably going to leave out a character or two if I list them all. Besides, I make my own rules… I can remake them, right? And I’m still on topic! It’s not rule breaking if you’re still relevant. Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

Let’s talk about why fictional characters should hang out with us.

You know, after they’ve been put through thick and thin, they probably don’t want to hang out with us, especially after I talked about why we need them during a zombie apocalypse. What if we kill them? What if we leave them alone? So many “What If” questions being asked! 🤔 They just want peace and quiet and time to themselves. Why should they hang out with us in the first place? 🤷‍♀️

We’re awesome, of course. 😜

This goes without saying. You know you’re awesome, they’re awesome, let’s share the awesomeness together.

We don’t want to be lonely.

I JUST DON’T WANT TO BE ALONE BY LONESOME LITTLE SELF. I JUST WANT SOME LOVE FROM MY FICTIONAL CHARACTERS AND FOR THEM TO KEEP ME COMPANY. 😭😭😭

Ringing in the new year by yourself is as sad as a cute puppy that didn’t get something they wanted.

We swear we just want to be besties.

You know what they like and that they’re compatible with you! After all, you’ve read all the books featuring their awesomeness and swear you just want to be besties with them.

It’ll be a time to be alive.

Hopefully, no one will complain about having the best of the best experiences because we’re going to be making sure they won’t regret it. In fact, it’ll be a time to be alive with us as we recap the past year and share our hopes and aspirations for the new year.

Sometimes we’re just tired of family.

Family is great and all, but when you’re constantly around them, it can get annoying AF. Or if you haven’t hung out with them in a long while, it’s exhausting and tiring, especially if you keep butting heads with them every time you reunite. Nobody has time for that.

Or sometimes it’s super awkward and wow, we already feel awkward just existing in their presence.

Bookish traditions come to life!

You’re a curious book nerd who wants to experience all the bookish holiday traditions from your favorite worlds. What better way to go through all of that with some of your favorite characters? Plus, maybe they’ll be curious about your traditions as well.

As long as a villain doesn’t ruin any of them, that is… or steal them.

Let’s talk!

Tell me about your holiday traditions? Are you ready for this year to be over? What characters would you beg ask to hang out with you?

And don’t forget to check out my other posts from Bookend Events!

Hannah has a penchant for chaos, which is probably how she ended up blogging since 2012. That, and she was probably too expressive for her parents to handle, so it had to go somewhere. 1. I totally understand how quickly it can become tiring to be around family. And yes, hanging around with fictional characters sound like a great idea.

  2. I have no idea, who I would ask off the top of my head, though I have “met” many characters I would want to be friends with this past year. I remember wanting to be adopted by two families last year, because they were so amazing – Claudia’s family in Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills and the Blackthorns from TDA.

    1. Ooooo the Blackthorns, interesting pick. I didn’t like them in TID, but since it’s TDA and that’s at least a century and then some… maybe I’ll like them better, lol. (To be fair, I wouldn’t know either.)

  3. my holiday traditions are making lists of all the things wrong with my life and how to theoretically fix them in the new year (then not actually following through on any of them), reading for days on end (sleep is for the weak)

tbh I would hang out with almost any literary adventure squad, but I think my top choice is gonna have to be the Gangsey from the Raven Cycle (because I would literally die trying to keep up with the Dregs or the Circle of Magic mages or the Wayward Children), though if we’re talking singular characters I think Cath Avery and I would totally get along. We’d totally bond over writing fanfic and our nerd boyfriends.

    1. Sherlock Holmes! To be honest, I would love to hang out with Holmes as well.. with John Watson, though, because it’ll be amusing to see their interactions together in person.

  4. This would be the dream if only fictional characters could hang out with us. It’s why I love Tilly and the Bookwanderers so much, the dream is there!
